Adoption Policies and Procedures
PET RESCUE NORTH IS A NO-KILL
SHELTER solely dedicated to saving and improving the lives of unfortunate animals that are stray, abandoned, or no longer
wanted by their owners. Our animals have typically been discarded by someone and have been brought to PRN for safekeeping
until we are able to find them a new home. We EXPECT the Adopter to provide the kindness, love and protection these animals
deserve for the rest of their natural lives. All our dogs, puppies,
cats and kittens are seeking responsible, caring owners who are committed to providing the love and medical care they need
throughout their lifetime (possibly 12 years or more). An ADOPTION
FEE of $110.00 will be charged to cover medical care while the animals are staying at the shelter. In addition, this
fee will cover the following medical procedures.
1)
Spaying or neutering- ALL ANIMALS MUST BE FIXED - NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
2) DIRO heartworm check
3)
One DHLPP-CV shot
4) Initial treatment of
heartworm preventative program
5) Initial treatment of flea and tick preventative program
6) Fecal exam to
check for hookworms, roundworms or whipworms (if positive, the animal will be wormed)
All medical care provided
shall be performed ONLY by the veterinarians servicing the shelter.
Appointments for meeting our animals and for adoptions must be made by calling Peggy at 477-1000.
NO CALLS
WILL BE TAKEN OR RETURNED AFTER 8:00 P.M.
A few of the general guidelines that make up the PRN Adoption
Policy are provided below. While, as they say, there is an exception to every rule, these guidelines are standard for
no-kill shelters and used for deciding suitability of a potential adopter.
1)
ALL ADOPTION APPLICANTS MUST BE INTERVIEWED AND APPROVED.
The interview questions are not
intended to be insulting or seem unfeeling.
We simply must make sure our animals will never be
abandoned, mistreated,
or neglected again. PRN reserves the right to deny person(s) who does not meet
PRN's specified adoption policies.
2) Must be 18 years of age or older in order to adopt.
3)
Must
have valid identification, with name and present address (driver's license, major credit card, or a
current utility bill).
4) If single and living at home with parents, one parent MUST be present or reached
by telephone at the time of
adoption.
5) The person who will be responsible
for the pet MUST be 18 years of age or older.
6) The person who is going to be responsible for the pet must
be present at the time of adoption in order to sign
the Adoption Agreement.
7)
No animal will be tied up, kept in a doghouse, pen, run, or kennel, or any type of garage, shed, laundry
room, or basement.
8) Cats are not allowed outdoors. They are to be kept strictly indoors only.
9)
No dormitory or group living situations, i.e., schools, group housing, etc., are permitted.
10) Landlords or rental agents will be called
to verify pets are allowed.
11) NO LARGE DOGS TO APARTMENTS!
12)
Present and past pet history must be verified. Adopter must have a working business telephone number.
13) There
will be a 2-week acclimation period, prior to final adoption, to see if the pet fits into their new home.
